California Sheriff Ordered to Stop Election Probe After Seizing Materials

The California Supreme Court has ordered Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco to halt his investigation into the 2022 election, which involved seizing election materials against the objections of state officials.
California authorities have ordered a controversial county sheriff to stop his investigation into the 2022 election, which involved seizing election materials without the approval of state officials. The California Supreme Court ruled that Chad Bianco, the Republican sheriff of Riverside County and a candidate for California governor, must halt the probe immediately.
Bianco, a vocal election skeptic, launched the investigation in late March, claiming there were irregularities in the 2022 election. However, the California Attorney General and Secretary of State both objected to the sheriff's actions, arguing that he had no legal authority to seize election materials.
