Meta Embraces Rival AI Chatbots on WhatsApp, Introduces Fees

Meta to allow competing AI chatbots on WhatsApp in Europe, but for a fee per non-template message. Rival providers can now offer their services on the popular messaging app.
Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, has announced that it will allow rival AI chatbot providers to offer their services on the popular messaging app for a fee. This move marks a significant shift in Meta's strategy, as the company has traditionally maintained a tight grip on the WhatsApp ecosystem.
According to the announcement, the fees for non-template messages will range from €0.0490 to €0.1323 per message, depending on the country. This fee structure is designed to help Meta offset the costs associated with hosting and maintaining the chatbot services on the WhatsApp platform.
