Recruiting Gamers: FAA's Solution to Air Traffic Controller Shortage

The FAA is turning to the gaming community to address its ongoing air traffic controller shortage, with a new recruiting campaign targeting experienced gamers.
Facing a persistent shortage of air traffic controllers, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is implementing a novel recruitment strategy - targeting the gaming community. With the US Government Accountability Office (GAO) reporting a 6% decline in the number of air traffic controllers over the past decade, the Trump administration is now rolling out a targeted campaign to attract gamers ahead of the annual air traffic control hiring window opening on April 17th.
The challenge, however, lies in successfully transitioning qualified individuals from the gaming world into the highly specialized role of air traffic control. According to the Department of Transportation's Office of Inspector, the training process for new air traffic controllers can be arduous, with extensive on-the-job training and certification requirements that can take several years to complete.
