Kia Unveils Compact EVs and Hybrids for 2027 at NY Auto Show

Kia showcases its new 2027 EV3 electric SUV and Seltos Hybrid, signaling a shift towards more compact, eco-friendly vehicles in the industry.
In a refreshing change from the recent doom and gloom in the EV industry, Kia is keeping the spirit of the New York Auto Show alive with the debut of its 2027 model year vehicles - the EV3 electric SUV and a hybrid version of the Seltos crossover.
While automakers have been focused on larger, three-row SUVs and electric trucks, Kia seems to have heard the call for smaller, more practical cars. The 2027 EV3 and Seltos Hybrid aim to cater to this demand, offering eco-friendly and maneuverable options for urban and suburban drivers.
EV3
The EV3 first caught our attention over two years ago, alongside Kia's EV4 sedan. While the EV4's US launch was shelved, the EV3 is forging ahead with its SUV-inspired styling that mimics the larger EV9. Ars Technica had a chance to briefly drive the EV3 in 2025, and our early impressions were promising.
The EV3 brings Kia's EV expertise to a more compact and affordable package, making electric driving accessible to a wider range of consumers. With its SUV-inspired design, the EV3 aims to capture the practicality and versatility that buyers have come to expect, while still offering the benefits of zero-emission mobility.
Seltos Hybrid
Alongside the EV3, Kia is also introducing a hybrid version of its popular Seltos crossover. This move diversifies Kia's offerings, providing customers with more eco-friendly options in the compact SUV segment.
The Seltos Hybrid combines a conventional internal combustion engine with an electric motor and battery pack, offering improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions compared to the standard Seltos. This hybrid variant caters to buyers who want the utility and size of a crossover, but with the added benefit of enhanced environmental performance.
By debuting these smaller, more efficient vehicles at the New York Auto Show, Kia is signaling a shift in the industry towards a greater emphasis on compact, eco-friendly options. As consumer preferences continue to evolve, automakers like Kia are positioning themselves to meet the growing demand for practical, sustainable transportation solutions.
The unveiling of the 2027 EV3 and Seltos Hybrid represents Kia's commitment to providing a diverse range of vehicle options, catering to the varied needs and preferences of today's car buyers. These new models offer a refreshing alternative to the larger, energy-intensive SUVs that have dominated the market in recent years.
