The family of United Nations human rights rapporteur Francesca Albanese has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over sanctions imposed on her, signaling an escalating legal battle over the US government's crackdown on critics of Israel.
Albanese, who was appointed as the UN's Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, has been the target of US sanctions since July 2022 over her criticism of Israel's treatment of Palestinians. The US Treasury Department accused Albanese of amplifying antisemitic conspiracy theories and aligning with terrorist organizations.
