Military Crackdown in Burkina Faso Leaves Devastating Toll

A sobering new report from Human Rights Watch has shed light on the staggering human toll of the military coup in Burkina Faso. According to the organization, over 1,800 civilians have been killed since the junta led by Captain Ibrahim Traoré seized power in September 2022, marking a devastating escalation of the country's ongoing security crisis.

Traoré and other military leaders, as well as Islamist militant groups, are potentially liable for the killings, which the rights group says may constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity.
