3 Fridays the 13th in 2026: A Triskaidekaphobia Nightmare

The Gregorian calendar has a 400-year cycle with 59 years hosting 3 Fridays the 13th. 2026 is one of them, bringing nightmares for those with a fear of the number 13.
The Gregorian calendar, which is the most widely used civil calendar system in the world, operates on a 400-year cycle. Within this cycle, there are 59 years that feature the superstitious event of three Fridays the 13th. The year 2026 is one of those unfortunate years, bringing dread and unease for those who suffer from friggatriskaidekaphobia - the irrational fear of Friday the 13th.
This rare occurrence is due to the way the Gregorian calendar is structured. Each year, the 13th day of the month falls on a different day of the week, cycling through the seven days. Every 28 years, the cycle resets, meaning the 13th will fall on the same day of the week as it did 28 years prior. However, due to the addition of leap years every four years (with the exception of years divisible by 100 but not 400), the cycle is slightly off, creating those infamous three Friday the 13th years.
