Air Canada CEO Issues Apology for English-Only Tribute Video

Air Canada CEO Michael Rousseau's failure to address the public in both official languages draws criticism for lack of inclusiveness during a somber time.
Air Canada, the country's largest airline, found itself at the center of a language controversy this week after its CEO, Michael Rousseau, released a condolence video for two pilots killed in a plane collision over the weekend - but the message was delivered exclusively in English, despite Air Canada's status as a bilingual company.
The incident, which occurred at New York's LaGuardia Airport, resulted in the deaths of the two pilots when their small planes collided in mid-air. Rousseau quickly issued a statement mourning the loss, but his decision to deliver the remarks only in English was seen by many as a significant lapse in judgment - particularly given Air Canada's mandate to serve both English and French-speaking Canadians.
