Albanese Calls for 'Self-Reliance' as Australia Faces Fuel Crisis After Iran War Escalation

Australian PM warns of supply chain and fuel disruptions, likening current economic shocks to COVID-19 and Ukraine invasion, ahead of snap national cabinet meeting.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is urging increased self-reliance and economic resilience as the country faces a fuel crisis in the wake of the escalating US-Israeli war against Iran. Albanese likened the current economic shocks to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukraine invasion, warning that the international reality has shifted due to the military actions.
Ahead of a snap meeting of the national cabinet on Thursday morning, Albanese said the federal government is preparing new measures to help shield Australian households from the fallout of the war in Iran, which has disrupted global supply chains and fuel supplies. The prime minister made these comments in a speech to the Australian Automotive Dealer Association in Sydney.
