Aldi Boosts Employee Wages with Two Pay Increases in 2023

Aldi, the German budget supermarket, is investing in its UK workforce with two pay rises this year to stay competitive among British supermarket chains.
Aldi, the German discount supermarket chain, has announced that it will be providing its shop staff in the UK with two pay rises during 2023 as the company continues to compete with other major supermarkets in the country.
The first pay increase will go into effect in February, with Aldi raising the minimum hourly rate for store assistants to £10.50 nationally and £11.95 for those inside the M25 London area. This represents a 4.4% and 6.25% increase, respectively, from the current £10.10 and £11.25 rates.

Then, in July, Aldi will implement another pay rise, increasing the minimum hourly rate for store assistants to £11.40 nationally and £12.45 for those inside the M25 region. This will represent a further 8.6% and 4.2% increase from the February rates.
The move is part of Aldi's strategy to attract and retain talent in the increasingly competitive UK supermarket landscape. As one of the fastest-growing supermarket chains in the country, Aldi has been gaining market share, putting pressure on larger rivals like Tesco, Sainsbury's, and Asda.
