Alleged Rapist Accused of Decade-Long Evasion, Extensive Online Searches

A man accused of a 2003 rape and assault that led to a wrongful conviction is revealed to have conducted an 'exponential' rise in online searches about the case when police began investigating a new suspect.
Paul Quinn, a 51-year-old man accused of a brutal 2003 rape and assault, is suspected to have evaded justice for nearly 20 years. However, when police began investigating a new suspect in the case, Quinn's online activity took an exponential turn, as he conducted extensive research into the case, according to testimony heard at the Manchester Crown Court.
The court heard that Quinn, who had previously shown little interest in news websites, suddenly carried out a surge of online searches about the case, even though he had little direct involvement. Prosecutors allege that this sudden spike in activity indicates Quinn's awareness of the police investigation and his attempts to stay informed about the developments.
The case in question revolves around the 2003 rape and violent assault of a woman, which led to the wrongful conviction of Andrew Malkinson. Malkinson spent 17 years in prison for a crime he did not commit before being exonerated in 2022.
