Baghdad - The US State Department has reported the kidnapping of American journalist Shelly Kittleson in the Iraqi capital, raising alarms over her safety and the involvement of an Iran-backed militia group in the abduction.

Kittleson, a seasoned foreign correspondent known for her coverage of regional conflicts, was reportedly taken from a residential area of Baghdad on Tuesday evening. Authorities say they have identified a suspect with ties to the Kataib Hezbollah militia, a Shia group with close links to Iran's Revolutionary Guard.
