Anthropic Launches New Think Tank Amid Pentagon Blacklist Fight

Evan Hubinger, Anthropic's former research scientist, will be the institute's deputy director. The institute will also incorporate Anthropic's existing AI safety and ethics teams, as well as its "long-term AI impact" research efforts.

Anthropic's move to create the new institute comes amid ongoing tensions with the Pentagon over the company's refusal to work on AI projects for the U.S. military. In June, the Pentagon placed Anthropic on a blacklist, restricting the company's access to government contracts and resources.
