Apple Rolls Out Age Verification for UK iPhone Users

Apple introduces new age controls in the UK to restrict access to adult content and enforce online safety for minors on iPhones.
As part of a push to enhance online safety and protect children, Apple has begun rolling out age verification requirements for iPhone users in the United Kingdom. Following a recent software update, millions of UK-based iOS device owners will now be asked to confirm they are over the age of 18 to access certain services and features on their devices.
The UK is the first European market where Apple is implementing these new age control measures, which are designed to ensure that only adults can download apps rated as suitable for those 18 and older on the App Store. Additionally, the update introduces communication safety checks for messages and FaceTime video calls, aimed at detecting and flagging nude photos and videos to help prevent the exploitation of minors.
While adult users who fail to verify their age will face restrictions on web browsing, the tech giant has stated that these new controls are primarily focused on safeguarding young people and providing parents with more tools to monitor and manage their children's digital activities. The move comes in response to growing pressure from the UK government on smartphone makers to take a more proactive approach to online child protection.
