Artemis II: NASA Triumphantly Launches Astronauts on Historic Moon Mission

NASA celebrates the successful launch of Artemis II, the first crewed mission to the moon in over 50 years, but emphasizes there is still more work ahead to achieve their ambitious goals.
NASA has hailed the Artemis II mission to send astronauts around the moon as a 'fantastic feat', marking a major milestone in the agency's ambitious plan to return humans to the lunar surface.
The uncrewed Artemis I mission in 2022 successfully launched the Space Launch System rocket and Orion spacecraft, paving the way for the next phase of the Artemis program. Artemis II, scheduled for launch in 2024, will carry a crew of four astronauts on a journey around the moon, the first crewed mission to the moon since the Apollo program in the 1970s.
