Artemis II's Historic Moon Flyby Marks Major Step for Lunar Exploration

The Artemis II mission has successfully completed a groundbreaking flight around the Moon, paving the way for future crewed missions to the lunar surface.
In a momentous achievement for space exploration, the astronauts of the Artemis II mission have returned home after completing a historic flight around the Moon. The crew, which included veteran astronauts and a diverse team of international partners, traveled a greater distance from Earth than any humans before them, marking a significant milestone in the Artemis program's goal of establishing a sustained human presence on the lunar surface.
The Artemis II mission, which launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida on November 16th, 2023, lasted 10 days and saw the crew orbiting the Moon at an average distance of approximately 4,600 miles (7,400 kilometers) from the lunar surface. During their journey, the astronauts conducted a series of scientific experiments and observations, further expanding our understanding of the Moon and its environment.
