Aussie Fuel Prices Soar: Albanese Warns Iran Truce Won't Ease the Pain

As petrol and diesel prices climb again, the Australian government cautions that a ceasefire between the US and Iran will not lead to cheaper fuel for drivers.
Petrol and diesel prices are surging once more in Australia, with diesel wholesale costs reaching new record highs. Despite the recent ceasefire between the US and Iran, the Albanese government is warning citizens not to expect fuel prices to drop anytime soon.
Chris Bowen, the Climate Change and Energy Minister, cautioned Australians against getting too optimistic about the prospect of cheaper fuel. "We shouldn't get ahead of ourselves," Bowen said. "The ceasefire with Iran is a positive development, but it won't automatically translate to lower petrol and diesel prices for Australian drivers."
The average unleaded prices at service stations rose in some cities on Wednesday for the first time since late March, as fuel tankers hiked their charges. This comes as a blow to Australian households and businesses already grappling with the high cost of living.
