Beavers Reviving Dorset's Biodiversity: Dams Bring New Life

A year after their reintroduction, beavers in Dorset are enriching habitats and may be reproducing, as the National Trust reports their positive impact on the region.
A year after their highly anticipated reintroduction to Dorset, England, the beavers are proving to be a resounding success, according to the National Trust. The semiaquatic mammals, hunted to extinction in the region over 400 years ago, are now breathing new life into the local environment, building dams and enriching habitats for a wide range of species.
The reintroduction of the beavers, which occurred with much fanfare and optimism but also some trepidation, has not been without its ups and downs. However, the National Trust's latest report paints a decidedly positive picture, suggesting the beavers may even be reproducing and raising their young, known as kits, this summer.
