Britons Bypass NHS Queues, Embrace Private Healthcare

As NHS wait times soar, a new report reveals a growing trend of Britons turning to private healthcare to get faster treatment. The wealthy lead this shift, but concerns about a two-tier system loom.
Britons are increasingly opting for private healthcare to bypass long NHS wait times, according to a new report from the patient watchdog. The poll found that the wealthier individuals are, the more likely they are to use private care, with 35% of those with incomes over £80,000 having done so in the past year, compared to just 10% of those with lower incomes.
This trend highlights concerns about the emergence of a two-tier healthcare system in the UK, where those who can afford it are able to access faster and potentially better treatment, while others remain stuck on lengthy NHS waiting lists. The findings come as the NHS continues to grapple with growing backlogs and staffing shortages, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
