Lead vehicle takes top-three runners off course, causing chaos at the finish line of the US Half Marathon Championship in Atlanta.
Chaos erupted at the US Half Marathon Championship in Atlanta as the lead vehicle took the top three runners off the main course, causing a dramatic turn of events in the final stretch of the race.
With less than two miles to go in the women's race, Jess McClain had a commanding lead over Ednah Kurgat and Emma Hurley when the guide vehicle inexplicably directed the trio off the course. Molly Born, who had been more than a minute behind, seized the opportunity and went on to win the race, with Carrie Ellwood and Annie Rodenfels finishing second and third, respectively. McClain, Hurley, and Kurgat ultimately finished in ninth, 12th, and 13th places.
