In a surprising turn of events, federal prosecutors have dropped criminal charges against a woman accused of participating in a controversial January protest at a Minnesota church. The woman, Heather Danae Lewis, was one of 30 people charged in connection with the anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) demonstration that disrupted a service at Cities church in St Paul.
According to court documents, officials have charged the protesters with civil rights crimes, alleging that they interfered with the right of the congregants at the church to exercise their religious beliefs. However, in a surprising turn of events, prosecutors have now notified a federal judge that they intend to drop the charges against Heather Danae Lewis, as she apparently did not attend the event at all.
