Chelsea Owner Abramovich Battles UK Over $3B Sale Proceeds

Sanctioned Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich fights UK government to control $3 billion from Chelsea FC sale despite international asset freezes.
Roman Abramovich, the former owner of Chelsea Football Club, is engaged in a high-stakes battle with the British government over the £2.5 billion ($3 billion) proceeds from the sale of the Premier League team. The Russian oligarch insists that the money is his to allocate, despite the international sanctions imposed on his assets in response to Moscow's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The UK and EU imposed sanctions on Abramovich in 2022, freezing his assets due to his alleged ties to Vladimir Putin's regime. However, Abramovich is now pushing back, claiming that the sale proceeds should not be subject to these restrictions.
