Controversial California Pipeline Resumes Oil Flow After Trump Order

Sable Offshore Corporation restarts oil flow through its Santa Ynez pipeline system in California, despite state officials' concerns, following a federal order amid the war on Iran.
Sable Offshore Corporation, the Houston-based owner of the coastal pipelines, announced on Monday that offshore oil was now flowing through its Santa Ynez unit and Santa Ynez pipeline system, which runs through several California counties. This move comes after a Trump administration order, despite state officials decrying the decision.
The pipeline, which had been closed since 2015 following a huge oil spill, has now been reopened as the federal government cited the need to boost US oil supply amid the ongoing war on Iran. The move has drawn criticism from California officials, who have voiced concerns over the environmental impact and safety of the pipeline's operation.
The Santa Ynez pipeline system has a long and controversial history, with numerous oil spills and environmental incidents reported over the years. The 2015 spill in particular, which released over 100,000 gallons of crude oil into the Pacific Ocean, sparked widespread public outrage and led to the pipeline's closure.
