Controversial Decision: Colombia Culls Pablo Escobar's Legacy Hippos

Colombia approves the controversial culling of wild hippos descended from drug lord Pablo Escobar's private zoo, as the animals pose a threat to the local ecosystem.
Decades after the infamous drug lord Pablo Escobar introduced the first hippos to Colombia for his private zoo, their descendants have now become a threat to the country's ecosystem. In a controversial move, the Colombian government has approved the culling of these wild hippos in an effort to mitigate the environmental damage they have caused.
The hippos, which were initially brought to Escobar's Hacienda Nápoles estate in the 1980s, have since thrived and multiplied, with their population now estimated to be around 120 individuals. These non-native animals have been causing significant disruption to the local waterways and habitats, impacting the delicate balance of the region's biodiversity.
