Convicted Killer Executed in Florida for Grocery Store Owner's Murder

Melvin Trotter, a 65-year-old man convicted of killing a 70-year-old grocery store owner, was executed by the state of Florida on Tuesday, becoming the second person put to death by the state this year. Trotter was pronounced dead at 6:15 pm following a lethal injection at Florida State Prison near Starke, according to authorities.
Trotter was convicted of the 1986 stabbing death of Virgie Langford, the owner of a local grocery store. The execution came after a record 19 executions carried out by Florida in 2025. Alex Lanfranconi, a spokesperson for Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, stated that there were no complications during the execution.
