Dangerous E. coli Outbreak Linked to California Raw Cheese: 9 Sickened, Many Children
A concerning E. coli outbreak has been traced back to raw cheddar cheese from a California dairy farm, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reported. According to the FDA alert, the outbreak has affected nine people across three states, with more than half of the victims being children under the age of five.
The dangerous strain of E. coli identified, O157:H7, has already led to three hospitalizations, and one person has even developed the potentially life-threatening hemolytic uremic syndrome, which can cause kidney failure. This is not the first time the dairy, known as Raw Farm, has been linked to a serious foodborne illness outbreak.
