DBS Launches Nationwide Faith in Safeguarding Campaign

Disclosure and Barring Service expands its free pop-up clinic initiative to help faith organizations enhance child protection and vulnerable adult safeguarding.
In a major push to strengthen safeguarding practices within faith-based organizations, the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) is expanding its Faith in Safeguarding campaign with the launch of free pop-up clinics across England.
The initiative, which has already seen success in select regions, aims to provide hands-on support and guidance to religious leaders, volunteers, and staff in navigating the complex landscape of background checks, disclosure requirements, and best practices for protecting children and vulnerable adults.
According to DBS officials, the decision to scale up the campaign nationally stems from an increased awareness of the vital role faith groups play in their communities, and the need to ensure robust safeguarding measures are in place.
Ruth Coombs, Head of Safeguarding at DBS, emphasized the importance of the campaign: "Faith organizations have a unique position of trust within their communities, and it's essential that they have the knowledge and tools to fulfill their duty of care. Through these pop-up clinics, we aim to empower faith leaders to prioritize safeguarding and create safer environments for all."
The free pop-up clinics will provide personalized guidance on a range of topics, including DBS checks, referral processes, and implementing comprehensive safeguarding policies. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, share best practices, and receive tailored recommendations based on the specific needs of their organization.
This initiative comes at a critical time, as faith-based organizations navigate the complexities of safeguarding in an ever-evolving social landscape. By partnering with the DBS, these groups can strengthen their ability to protect the most vulnerable members of their communities and foster an environment of trust and safety.
As the Faith in Safeguarding campaign expands nationwide, the DBS is confident that it will have a lasting impact on the way faith organizations approach child protection and vulnerable adult safeguarding. By empowering these groups with the knowledge and resources they need, the DBS aims to set a new standard for safeguarding best practices across the country.
