Deadly Jihadist Raids Decimate Nigerian Military in North-East

At least 65 Nigerian soldiers killed in recent Islamic State West Africa Province attacks across the country's northeast as the government struggles to contain the deadly insurgency.
The security situation in Nigeria's north-eastern region has taken a turn for the worse, with the country's military suffering devastating losses at the hands of jihadist fighters in the past two weeks. At least 65 Nigerian soldiers have been killed in a series of raids carried out by the Islamic State West Africa Province (Iswap), one of the world's most deadly terror groups.
According to reports, on 5 and 6 March, Iswap gunmen overran four military bases in Borno state, the epicentre of the long-running insurgency. In these attacks, about 40 soldiers were killed, further decimating the Nigerian military's presence in the region. The Punch, a Nigerian daily, reported the alarming toll from these latest assaults.
