Baghdad, Iraq - A deadly attack on two oil tankers off the Iraqi coast has prompted the government to shut down key oil export facilities, further escalating tensions in the already volatile region. The assault, which engulfed the vessels in flames, has been widely blamed on Iran by senior Iraqi officials.
The incident occurred in the Persian Gulf near the Iraqi port city of Basra, leaving at least one person dead and sparking a major security crisis. Eyewitnesses reported seeing explosions and smoke billowing from the targeted tankers, which were anchored in the area.
In response to the attack, the Iraqi government has ordered the closure of the Basra Oil Terminal and the Khor al-Amaya Oil Terminal, two of the country's most important export hubs. This move is aimed at bolstering security and preventing further incidents that could disrupt the flow of crucial crude oil supplies to global markets.
