Deadly Silica Dust: Quartz Countertop Makers Seek Liability Protection

Quartz countertop manufacturers face lawsuits from workers with silicosis, a deadly lung disease caused by inhaling silica dust. Makers want immunity from these claims.
Quartz countertop makers are seeking legal immunity against claims from workers who have developed silicosis, a potentially fatal lung disease caused by inhaling silica dust. Jeff Rose, a part-owner of a countertop fabrication shop in Nicholasville, Kentucky, is one of hundreds, if not thousands, of workers diagnosed with this debilitating condition.

As the industry has grown, so too has the number of workers falling ill, leading to a wave of lawsuits against manufacturers.
