Detained Journalist Released After 15-Day ICE Custody

Colombia-born reporter Estefany Rodríguez, whose detention sparked press freedom concerns, freed on $10K bond after 15 days in ICE detention.
In a concerning case for press freedom, Colombian-born journalist Estefany Rodríguez was recently detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and held for 15 days before being released on a $10,000 bond. Rodríguez, who covers immigration and other topics for the Nashville-based outlet Noticias, was arrested in Nashville on March 4th and spent a week in an Alabama county jail before being transferred to a detention facility in Louisiana.
According to Rodríguez's lawyers, she was detained without a warrant, raising alarm among press freedom advocates who saw the move as a potential attempt to intimidate or silence a journalist reporting on immigration issues. Rodríguez's detention came amid heightened concerns over the treatment of members of the press, particularly those covering controversial topics like immigration enforcement.
