Developed Nations Dump E-Waste in Nigeria's Local Markets

Discarded electronics from wealthy countries are fueling Nigeria's growing e-waste crisis, posing health and environmental risks for local communities.
Developed nations are offloading their discarded, near-end-of-life electronics onto local markets in Nigeria, adding to the country's growing e-waste burden. This influx of e-waste from wealthy countries is exacerbating the environmental and public health risks faced by Nigerian communities.
According to experts, much of this e-waste is effectively "junk" that is unsuitable for reuse or refurbishment. Instead, it often ends up in informal recycling operations that lack the proper safeguards to handle hazardous materials, leading to the release of toxic substances into the air, soil, and water.
