Disgraced Cop Pleaded Guilty to Shocking Deepfake Crimes

A Pennsylvania state police corporal used AI tools to create over 3,000 pornographic deepfakes from driver's license photos and other state data, facing a slew of charges.
A Pennsylvania state police corporal has pleaded guilty to a shocking set of crimes, including using artificial intelligence (AI) tools to create over 3,000 pornographic deepfakes from stolen data like driver's license photos and other state databases.
The corporal's offenses were even more egregious, as he also admitted to possessing a stolen gun, having child sexual abuse material on his hard drives, and going through his co-workers' personal belongings, including their underwear.
Many of the deepfake images were created using state-owned devices at police barracks, with one particularly disturbing case involving a district court judge as the victim. The corporal's crimes showcase the terrifying potential of deepfake technology when wielded by bad actors with access to sensitive personal data.
