Disgraced Former NSW MP Feted at Liberal Campaign Event

Despite being found by ICAC to have engaged in serious corrupt conduct, a former NSW Liberal MP was welcomed as an 'esteemed luminary' at a campaign event for his successor.
Disgraced former New South Wales minister John Sidoti, who was found by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) to have engaged in serious corrupt conduct, was recently feted as one of the "esteemed luminaries of the Liberal party" at an election fundraiser headlined by the state opposition leader, Kellie Sloane.
Sidoti, a former Liberal minister and state member for Drummoyne who left the party in 2021 amid the ICAC investigation, attended a re-election campaign launch event last week for his successor as MP and former staffer, Stephanie Di Pasqua.

The presence of the disgraced former MP at the event, where he was warmly welcomed and applauded, has raised eyebrows and questions about the Liberal Party's standards and its apparent willingness to embrace those found to have engaged in corrupt conduct.
The ICAC investigation found that Sidoti had misused his position as a minister to improperly influence local council decisions regarding the rezoning of properties owned by his family. This included attempting to unduly pressure council staff and making false statements to the commission.
Despite these damning findings, Sidoti was celebrated as an "esteemed" member of the Liberal party at the campaign event, underscoring the apparent disconnect between the party's professed values and its actions.
The presence of the disgraced former MP at the event has sparked outrage and renewed calls for the Liberal Party to address the issues of corruption and misconduct within its ranks. It also raises questions about the party's commitment to upholding the integrity of the democratic process and the public's trust in its elected representatives.
The incident serves as a stark reminder that the fight against corruption in Australian politics is far from over, and that public scrutiny and accountability must remain vigilant to ensure that the highest standards of ethical conduct are upheld by all those in positions of power and influence.
