Escalating Tensions: UN Intervenes in Iran-US Conflict

Examining the UN Charter's role as the US-Israel attack on Iran tests the limits of international law on the use of force.
The recent US-Israel attack on Iran has once again spotlighted the United Nations Charter, which was drafted in the aftermath of World War II. At the heart of the current situation is Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, which explicitly bans unprovoked threats and the use of force amongst countries.
This provision was intended to prevent the type of unilateral aggression that had led to the devastating global conflict. However, the ongoing tensions between Iran and the US, as well as Israel, are now putting this fundamental principle of international law to the test. As the world watches closely, the UN's ability to enforce its own red lines on the use of force is being challenged.
