Ethiopia Joins Israel's Geopolitical Hexagon, Rivalling Enemies

Israeli President Herzog's visit to Addis Ababa sparks speculation about Ethiopia's potential role in Israel's growing regional alliance, challenging its adversaries.
Israel is increasingly positioning Ethiopia as part of its geopolitical 'hexagon' alliance, seeking to counter the influence of its regional rivals in the Horn of Africa. The visit of Israeli President Isaac Herzog to Addis Ababa, just days after high-level delegations from Turkiye and Saudi Arabia, underscores Ethiopia's strategic importance in this shifting regional dynamic.
The 'hexagon' alliance, envisioned by Israeli strategists, aims to create a web of partnerships stretching from the Eastern Mediterranean to the Red Sea and the Gulf, encompassing Cyprus, Greece, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, and potentially Bahrain. Ethiopia's inclusion in this network would further bolster Israel's influence and counter the growing assertiveness of its rivals, such as Iran, Turkey, and Qatar, in the Horn of Africa region.
