EV Highlights from the 2026 New York Auto Show

Discover the most interesting upcoming electric vehicles unveiled at the 2026 New York International Auto Show, including models from Subaru, Kia, and Hyundai.
With gas prices on the rise, consumers are increasingly turning to electric vehicles as a way to save money on their commute. While the 2026 New York International Auto Show didn't feature a ton of all-new EVs, there were some notable debuts from automakers like Subaru, Kia, Hyundai and more. Let's take a closer look at some of the most interesting upcoming EV models that were on display.
Subaru Getaway
Built on the same platform as Toyota's Highlander EV, the Getaway isn't just Subaru's first three-row EV SUV, but it also marks the brand's first foray into the electric vehicle market. With seating for up to seven passengers and a targeted range of over 300 miles, the Getaway looks to provide a practical, family-friendly option for those making the switch to electric.

Next up is the Kia EV7, a midsize electric crossover that aims to blend the practicality of an SUV with the efficiency and performance of an EV. Slotting in between Kia's smaller Niro EV and the larger Sorento EV, the EV7 features a striking, aerodynamic design and is expected to offer a range of around 280 miles. With a focus on tech and comfort, the EV7 could be a compelling option for buyers seeking a versatile electric vehicle.

Hyundai is also getting in on the EV action with the all-new Ioniq 8, a midsize electric sedan that's designed to compete with the likes of the Tesla Model 3 and Polestar 2. With a targeted range of over 300 miles and the latest in autonomous driving tech, the Ioniq 8 aims to provide a premium electric driving experience. Hyundai has been on a roll with its EV lineup, and the Ioniq 8 looks to be another strong contender.

While not a production model, Rivian's latest electric pickup truck concept was one of the real showstoppers of the event. Dubbed the R1T XL, this brawny, off-road-focused EV features a longer wheelbase, more cargo space, and an even more powerful powertrain than the standard R1T. With rugged, adventure-ready styling and the promise of exceptional performance and capability, the R1T XL concept gave us a glimpse of what the future of electric trucks may hold.
