In a bold move against the UK government's restrictive visa policies, six students from Sudan and Afghanistan have launched legal action to overturn a ban that prevents them from taking up their university placements in the country. The students, five from Sudan and one from Afghanistan, hold undergraduate degrees in fields like medicine and science, and had received offers from prestigious institutions such as Oxford, Cambridge, and Imperial College London.
The students argue that the Home Office's so-called 'emergency brake' on visas for their countries is discriminatory and a violation of their rights. This controversial policy, implemented by the government, has effectively barred them from pursuing their academic dreams in the UK.
