Forgotten Rembrandt Masterpiece Rediscovered in UK

Exclusive: Art expert confirms long-dismissed painting in UK collection is a genuine 17th-century Rembrandt, reunited with his undisputed work in Chicago.
In a remarkable art world discovery, a portrait painting in a UK private collection that has long been dismissed as a mere workshop copy is in fact a genuine 17th-century masterpiece by the renowned Dutch artist Rembrandt, according to a leading art scholar.
The painting, titled Old Man with a Gold Chain and dating to the early 1630s, is a near-life-size depiction of an older man wearing a gold chain and a plumed hat. It is a twin to an almost identical painting by Rembrandt that resides at the Art Institute of Chicago.
For decades, the UK version of the painting was believed to be a workshop copy, made by one of Rembrandt's students or assistants. However, a recent in-depth analysis by renowned Rembrandt expert Dr. Emma Markham has concluded that the UK work is in fact an original Rembrandt, painted alongside the Chicago version.
