From Labour to Green: Muslim Voters Seek Change in Newcastle

As local elections loom, Muslim voters in Newcastle are shifting away from Labour, concerned with the rise of the far-right, climate change, and cost of living issues - not just the Middle East.
Newcastle, a bustling city in northeast England, has become a battleground for the shifting political loyalties of its Muslim voters. Ahead of the upcoming local elections, a growing number of these voters are turning their backs on the Labour Party and embracing the Green Party as their new political home.
Mohammed Suleman, a self-described "straight-talking Geordie" and a taxi driver and businessman, is one such voter. Suleman, who has traditionally voted Labour, explains that his decision to shift his support is not just about the war in Gaza. "The rise of the far-right, the climate, and the cost of living are concerning voters as much as the Middle East," he says.
