Generation Z's Complex Relationship with AI: Between Hope and Disillusionment

New Gallup report reveals Gen Z's shifting attitudes towards AI, as enthusiasm fades and resentment grows despite reliance on the technology in school and work.
Generation Z, the digital-native cohort, is increasingly grappling with a complex and nuanced relationship with artificial intelligence (AI). A recent Gallup report, based on responses from nearly 1,600 people aged 14 to 29 across the United States, sheds light on the generation's evolving perceptions of this transformative technology.
The survey, conducted in February and March of this year, suggests that the initial hype surrounding AI is beginning to wear off as the technology becomes more deeply embedded in both educational and professional settings. Enthusiasm for AI among Gen Z has fallen significantly since last year, with only 18 percent expressing hope about the technology, down from previous levels.
Furthermore, the report reveals a growing sense of resentment among young people, with 22 percent indicating that they are worried or upset about AI. This shift in sentiment reflects the realization that the integration of AI into their daily lives may not be entirely beneficial, as they navigate the challenges and implications of this rapidly advancing field.
