German Chancellor Olaf Merz has traveled to the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou, known as a thriving technology and innovation hub, accompanied by a delegation of German business leaders. The visit aims to explore potential business opportunities and partnerships between German and Chinese companies operating in the region.
Hangzhou is home to a number of prominent tech firms, including the AI company DeepSeek and e-commerce giant Alibaba, which has its global headquarters in the city. The German delegation, which includes representatives from major industries such as automotive, manufacturing, and renewable energy, is seeking to gain a better understanding of the local tech ecosystem and identify areas for collaboration.
