Global Energy Crisis Persists Even After Ukraine War Ends, Warns IEA Chief

IEA's Fatih Birol cautions that the global energy crisis will not be resolved quickly, even if the Ukraine war ends, as structural issues require long-term solutions.
The global energy crisis is unlikely to be resolved quickly, even if the war in Ukraine comes to an end, according to Fatih Birol, the executive director of the International Energy Agency (IEA). Speaking in Canberra, Australia, on Monday, Birol warned that the world is facing a multifaceted energy challenge that requires long-term solutions to address the underlying structural issues.
Birol's comments come as the global energy landscape has been significantly disrupted by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which has led to supply chain disruptions, sanctions, and a surge in energy prices worldwide. While the end of the war could help alleviate some of the immediate pressures, Birol cautioned that the crisis is deeply rooted and will not be easily or quickly resolved.
