Global Tensions Escalate After U.S. and Israel Strike Iran, Tehran Retaliates

Reactions from the EU, Oman, and other world powers as the U.S., Israel, and Iran exchange blows, raising fears of a broader conflict in the region.
The world is reacting with growing concern as tensions in the Middle East reach a boiling point. The conflict began with a series of attacks by the United States and Israel against targets in Iran, which Tehran has now answered with its own retaliatory strikes.
European Union officials have called for 'maximum restraint' from all sides, urging them to avoid further escalation. Oman, which has historically played a mediating role in the region, warned the U.S. 'not to get sucked in' any deeper into the conflict.
The attacks began when the U.S. and Israel launched a coordinated strike on Iranian military sites, citing Tehran's continued development of its nuclear program and support for regional proxy groups. Iran has now responded with missile strikes on U.S. bases in Iraq, as well as drone attacks on targets in Israel.
Analysts warn that this cycle of retaliation could rapidly spiral out of control, potentially drawing in other regional powers and leading to an all-out war. Diplomats are frantically working behind the scenes to try to de-escalate the situation and prevent a wider conflagration.
At the heart of the conflict is Iran's nuclear program and its support for Shiite militias across the region, which the U.S. and Israel view as a major security threat. Tehran has long maintained that its nuclear work is for peaceful purposes, but Washington and its allies remain deeply skeptical.
The current crisis has its roots in the U.S. withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal in 2018 and the subsequent reimposition of harsh economic sanctions on Iran. This has fueled resentment in Tehran and prompted it to gradually step up its nuclear activities in response.
As the situation continues to unfold, world leaders are calling for immediate de-escalation and a return to the diplomatic process. However, with both sides digging in and unwilling to back down, the prospects for a swift resolution appear increasingly dim.
