Greece's Bold Move: Social Media Ban for Under-15s to Combat Anxiety and Sleep Issues

Greece proposes a social media ban for minors under 15, aiming to address rising mental health concerns and the addictive nature of online platforms.
In a bold move to address the growing concerns over the impact of social media on the mental health of young people, the Greek government has announced a plan to ban access to social media platforms for individuals under the age of 15, starting on January 1st of next year. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis cited the rising levels of anxiety, sleep problems, and the addictive design of online platforms as the primary drivers behind this decision, although he acknowledged that it may incur the wrath of some children.
The Prime Minister made the announcement in a TikTok video aimed at addressing a younger audience, emphasizing the need for united action across the European Union to tackle this pressing issue. "We have decided to go ahead with a difficult but necessary measure: ban access to social media for children under 15 years old," he stated, underscoring the government's commitment to prioritizing the well-being of its young citizens.
