Gulf Shipping Attacks Devastate Global Trade, UK Warns at UN

In a stern statement at the UN General Assembly, the UK chargé d'affaires condemns the attacks on international shipping in the Gulf, warning of their deep economic damage worldwide.
Gulf shipping disruptions caused by recent attacks have been deeply damaging for the global economy, the UK warned in a statement at the United Nations General Assembly.
Speaking on behalf of the UK, Ambassador James Kariuki, the UK Chargé d'Affaires to the UN, condemned the attacks, saying they had undermined international trade and freedom of navigation.
"The attacks on international shipping in the Gulf have been deeply damaging for the world. They have undermined international trade and freedom of navigation, core principles of the rules-based international system," Kariuki stated.

The UK diplomat emphasized that the attacks threatened global economic stability and prosperity, impacting vital supply chains and energy security.
"These attacks have had a profoundly destabilizing effect, disrupting vital shipping lanes and threatening global economic stability and prosperity. They have impacted supply chains and energy security on which we all depend," he said.

Kariuki reiterated the UK's commitment to protecting freedom of navigation and upholding the rules-based international order. He called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and work toward a peaceful resolution of the tensions in the region.
