In a troubling development, several major European retailers have removed popular headphone models from their shelves after an EU-funded study uncovered the presence of hormone-disrupting chemicals in a wide range of leading audio brands.
The comprehensive study, which analyzed 81 different types of headphones, found that all of the tested products contained at least trace amounts of these harmful chemicals. Retailers such as Bol.com, Coolblue, and Mediamarkt have responded by pulling some of the worst-scoring models from their inventories.
