Historic Overhaul: GMC Reforms to Transform Medical Regulation

Major changes to the regulation of doctors in the UK, including key recommendations from the Mann review, are being proposed in a landmark consultation on the General Medical Council Order.
The medical profession in the UK is set to undergo its most significant overhaul in nearly 40 years, as the government launches a consultation on reforming the regulation of doctors through the General Medical Council (GMC) Order. This sweeping initiative aims to address longstanding concerns and modernize the system that oversees the conduct and fitness of over 300,000 registered practitioners.
At the heart of the proposed changes are the recommendations put forth by the independent Mann review, which was commissioned to examine the GMC's governance and operations. The review, led by former Court of Appeal judge Sir Norman Williams, has served as a blueprint for the impending transformation.
