Hungary's AI Propaganda: Orbán's Bid for Four More Years

Videos targeting Viktor Orbán's election rival fuel rhetoric as the longtime Hungarian leader seeks to retain power after 16 years in office.
Budapest - As Viktor Orbán seeks to extend his 16-year rule over Hungary, his ruling Fidesz party has turned to AI-generated videos to bolster its election campaign and target the opposition. These manipulated videos, which depict Orbán's main rival, Péter Márki-Zay, in unflattering ways, have become a source of controversy and concern over the growing use of such AI-powered propaganda in the country's political landscape.
Márki-Zay, the independent candidate challenging Orbán, has accused the government of using deepfake technology to create misleading videos that make him appear unfit for office. The videos, which have been widely shared on social media, present Márki-Zay in a range of compromising situations, including making inappropriate comments and engaging in questionable behavior.
