IEA Orders Massive 400M Barrel Oil Release to Ease Global Supply Crunch
The International Energy Agency has taken unprecedented action, approving a record 400 million barrel oil release to address the global energy crisis sparked by the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
In a move to stabilize global energy markets amidst the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has approved a record-breaking release of 400 million barrels of oil from member countries' strategic reserves. This historic decision comes as the world grapples with the fallout of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which has significantly disrupted the global oil supply.
The IEA, an intergovernmental organization comprised of 31 member countries, including the United States, Japan, and major European nations, has not taken such a drastic measure since its formation in 1974. This unprecedented release is intended to offset the loss of Russian oil exports and mitigate the impact on energy prices worldwide.
